IN CANYON LAKE, TEXAS, HAS OVER 350 PRESERVED DINOSAUR FOOTPRINTS THE HERITAGE MUSEUM OF THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY, CANYON LAKE, TEXAS. The Museum is located between the towns of Sattler and Startzville at 4831 FM 2673. OPEN: Wednesday through Sunday. HOURS: Noon to 4:00 p.m. With advances in technology and the fast-paced world we live in today, it is hard to imagine a time when there were giant dinosaurs roaming the very ground we walk on today. But it is true! The Heritage Museum has over 250 preserved dinosaur footprints, estimated to be over 110 million years old. The prints are located under a shaded pavilion. Visitors are encouraged to view the tracks from the top of the amphitheater. The dinosaurs that made tracks at the Museum are believed to be Acrocanthosaurus and Iguanodons. Each visitor is given informational tours by a knowledgeable docent about the dinosaurs and the Central Texas environment during the Cretaceous Period. Because the dinosaur footprints are embedded in limestone, they are slowly eroding. The Museum has made it its mission to preserve and protect these tracks for future generations to enjoy. The museum building houses collections of fossils, artifacts from Central & South Texas and antiques and collectibles. In addition, the Museum offers Fossil Ridge tours and children’s programs and camps throughout the year. The Museum is a 501c3 non-profit organization. All admission fees, donations, and gift shop revenues go toward preserving the footprints and trackways, educating the public about earth science, and keeping the museum open for visitors. www.theheritagemuseum.com830-899-4542
